About Mount Rinjani in Lombok

Many people ask, ‘How high is Mount Rinjani?’ Mount Rinjani is located at an altitude of 3,726 meters above sea level. To reach the peak at this elevation, people generally start their climb from the Sembalun, Senaru, Torean, Timbanuh, Sajang, or Aik Berik routes.

Before the 7.0 Richter scale earthquake that hit Lombok, Senaru was known as the longest, easiest, and most fun trekking route. However, after the earthquake, its reputation was overtaken by the Torean route.

If you want to climb Mount Rinjani on a shorter route, you can start from Pelawangan Sembalun Lawang or Sembalun Bumbung on the east side of the mountain. This route is indeed shorter, but you will encounter quite an extreme trek, a challenging journey that you will never forget.

If you start trekking Rinjani from Sembalun Bumbung, you will enjoy some beautiful scenery with very fresh air. Sembalun Bumbung is located on the east side of the mountain, where you can find a village surrounded by several hills.

As for Sembalun Lawang, it is more known as an agro-tourism area. There are many areas used for the cultivation of fruits and vegetables. In Sembalun Lawang, many homestays have been built for tourists.

During the rain, the mountain will become slipperier. But the good side is that the need for drinking water will be less compared to the dry season.
